There are few unspoiled places left in the world and fewer still that are a single plane trip away.
The privately owned island of Little Whale Cay, in the heart of the Bahamas, is one such place. Not only does this oasis of beauty and tranquility serve guest parties of up to 12 people with its own landing strip, private harbour and sea plane ramp, but its subtropical gardens and white sandy beaches are surrounded by some of the cleanest and most beautiful seas in the world.
Developed by Wallace Groves in the 1930's, the 93 acre island has become a lush paradise for exotic birds, butterflies, turtles and the lucky few.
The main residence of Little Whale House and its two guest houses have the relaxed atmosphere that can only be found in a family home. Ceiling fans gently whir to the accompaniment of cicadas in the gardens outside. Beachcomber collections of coral and shells decorate the bedrooms along with vases of freshly picked bougainvillea and mimosa. Yet despite its informal and unpretentious character Little Whale Cay offers the service, amenities, and cuisine of a fine hotel.
Accommodations on Little Whale Cay are very comfortable for 12 guests. Little Whale House is the main residence. This structure is a classic '30's design for very upscale comfortable island occupancy with an extra large living room area and dining room area, a separate sitting room and bar with lovely bay window faces the sea and provides a commodious entertaining area. The large opening windows, exposed beam native pine cathedral ceilings with hanging fans and original tile flooring throughout, add to the wonderful ambiance we associate with the '30's era. The decor is understated and in keeping with those adventurous and exciting times about which we tend to be so inquisitive.
Little Whale House has a total of two bedrooms. Bedroom #1 is located on the second floor with king size bed and adjoining bath. A balcony overlooks the sea from this suite. Adjacent to this bedroom is a large study/office/den which also has a balcony. Bedroom #2 with 2 queen size beds w/ adjoining bathroom is located on the main floor.
Flamingo House has a total of 4 spacious bedrooms along with kitchen, dining room, sitting room and outside terrace.
Bedroom #1 has 2 full sized beds w/adjoining bath.
Bedroom #2 has 2 full sized beds w/adjoining bath.
Bedroom #3 has 2 double beds
Bedroom #4 has 2 single beds

Peacock House has one bedroom with king size bed, adjoining bath, kitchen, sitting room and outside terrace overlooking the ocean.
Island Staff: Ten staff members are in full time residence.

(1) 23'Donzi with twin outboard motors - may be used for inter-island travel and exploration, fishing and snorkeling.

(1) Glass-bottomed skiff - may be used for looking at the bottom of the sea or snorkeling. Snorkeling equipment is available.

A superb all-weather tournament tennis court - recently professionally resurfaced, is conveniently located very close to Little Whale House and Flamingo House.
Beaches, Paths & Walkways
Little whale Cay has one of the most beautiful private coral sand beaches in the Bahamas. A curved native stone stairway leads from Little Whale House to the main beach. Several smaller beaches are located in other areas of the island and easily accessible. There are existing pathways by which one can circumnavigate the island - leading through the gardens and to the Little Whale Cay Lighthouse. Tradition dictates that the island flag is hoisted the evening of your arrival, celebrating the setting sun and your residency!
Little Whale Cay is easily accessible by boat/airplane/seaplane. The marina is adjacent to the sea plane ramp which is next to the private landing strip. Private air charter service is available from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Nassau. Bahama Customs clearance is in Chubb Cay, a 5-minute flight from Little Whale Cay’s private landing strip.
