Guana Island

A Private Island Resort In the British Virgin Islands
This 850 acre tropical island, one of the largest of the British Virgin Islands is home to a chic upscale, boutique resort which is one of the most private hideaways in the Caribbean. It is an oasis of privacy where you can seclude yourself in a natural setting with excellent gourmet food and wine, spa cuisine if desired, and excellent personal service.
Guana is a secluded, romantic virgin island of the British Virgin Islands -- a hide-away nature preserve and wildlife sanctuary where indigenous flora and fauna are protected. Flamingo and other bird watching and iguana feeding are special guest activities. Hiking and walking trails are maintained throughout the Island, and there are seven powder white sand beaches, some remote and secluded. There are two excellent tennis courts, all water sports including fishing, deep sea fishing, water skiing, snorkeling, scuba diving and a fleet of small sailboats, kayaks and wind surfers, a croquet court, ping pong, and massage. If fitness is not for you and you like more solitary time, spend the days in our comfortable library, or relax under the sway of our many species of palm trees on the beach.
Guest rooms are comfortable, with private, scenic terraces offering panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Dinner, casual yet elegant, is served on candle-lit terraces where the candles highlight home-grown fruits and vegetables in Continental, American, and West Indian cuisine. Beach barbecues with traditional steel bands; crab races in sunshine or by moonlight; sunset cruises; trips to Tortola, the Baths on Virgin Gorda, Anegada, Foxy's on Jost Van Dyke all add to the fun.
Rent the Island or a suite or a room. Come for a honeymoon or a wedding. Celebrate a birthday, anniversary or family reunion – or bring a group for a business meeting, small convention or retreat. Whether you seek a get-away for solitude – or to be social -- in luxury or simplicity, Guana Island has it all. Full Island rental is one of the best ways to experience Guana Island – but coming alone and meeting new people results in new friendships that turn first-time guests into repeat guests. After your first romantic candlelit dinner with the fragrance of jasmine all around you, you will know that this serene and tranquil British Virgin Island is like no other in the Caribbean.
Guana Island welcomes vacation travelers, scientists, adventure lovers and naturalists, to this beautiful, small, ecologically preserved, private island sanctuary whose history includes pirates, Amerindians like the Caribs and Arawaks, and Quakers who left behind them interesting historic ruins of sugar mills and great houses.
Come see for yourself – and experience the beautiful and spectacular Island paradise called Guana.

Guana Island offers accommodations for up to thirty guests in fifteen private rooms in picturesque, white stone cottages, each with its own private terrace and spectacular views of the Virgin Islands.
With the splendor of nature taking people's breath away at every turn, we use restraint indoors. Our interiors are comfortably but not overwhelmingly furnished in a style that comes out of the history of Guana Island, which was once a sugar cane plantation owned by American Quakers. That's right, Quakers -- but Quakers who knew how to live! They favored native stone architecture and managed very nicely without media rooms and discos. That mood still prevails.
North Beach Cottage
An intimate, private hide-away at the edge of Guana's vast North Beach is reached by a trail through lush foliage. The cottage, hidden in tropical woodland, sits almost at waters edge. It is the only cottage on the beach. A trail to the house winds almost half a mile past a salt-water flamingo pond, Quaker ruins, and through coconut, papaya, and sea-grape trees.

Living quarters are on the upper level of the cottage which is designed for views from every indoor area. Large windows and sliding doors in each room face the ocean or tropical foliage. The interior features comfortable furniture in soft Caribbean colors. Outside, both open and covered decks overlook North Beach and the Bay. The bedroom has views of sunrises and the ocean as well as glass doors leading to a terrace with rattan furnishings.

Stairs from the covered dining area and cottage sun deck lead to the North Beach seashore. A winding boardwalk leads to an oceanside deck with steps to a swimming area cleared of rocks. The deck is perfect for sunning and watching sea birds that habit these shores. The long, white shoreline of North Bay Beach is so pristine that nesting turtles come ashore to lay their eggs. Secluded romance awaits you at the North Beach Cottage at Guana in the British Virgin Islands.

Beaches
White Bay Beach is the powder-white stretch of glimmering coral sand that most of our guests use every day. And since they never number more than thirty, it's hard to imagine anyone thinking it crowded. We do, however, understand that there are times when people want to be alone. Really alone. Fortunately, we have six more beaches on the Island, some so secluded they're accessible only by boat, on any of which we can arrange a very private picnic.
Guana's beaches are ideal for swimming and collecting exotic shells. If you can tear yourself away there's also snorkeling, windsurfing, tennis, and croquet.
Nature
As far as we know, we’re the only wildlife sanctuary in the world with a cocktail hour. And we mean a real wildlife sanctuary. With an official designation and more flora and fauna than any island its size in the Caribbean, maybe even the world. In fact, we've published a special guide for the many naturalists who come from as far away as China to explore our mountain trails. Most guests, however, prefer to observe it all from a distance on a chaise, with a pina colada as a study aid. Like everything else on the Island, how you make use of the natural wonders is entirely up to you.
Guana Island is a haven for many endangered species, including the Masked Booby, the Bridled Quail Dove, and the Crestfallen Traveler.

It’s easy to get to the island that’s like no place else on earth. To reach the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean, fly to Tortola by way of San Juan or St. Thomas. One of our staff will meet you at the BVI airport. Then it's just a matter of minutes by private launch till you see the iguana-shaped rock formation that gives the Island its name. As we hope you'll discover for yourself, the only difficult part of a trip to Guana Island is leaving it.
A Guana representative will meet you at the Customs door and accompany you on the short taxi ride to the dock, where you will board a Guana launch for the 10-minute cruise to the Island. A $35 per-person charge added to your bill covers round-trip taxi and boat transfers.
Attire: At cocktails and dinner, dress is smart casual. Men generally wear slacks and sport shirts (no shorts); women wear long or short skirts or long pants. Bathing suits and shorts are the usual daytime attire, but cover ups and shoes or sandals are required at all meals and in the main Club area.
Check-In and Check-Out: Formal check-in time is 2 pm and check-out is 12 noon. You are, of course, welcome to enjoy our facilities if you arrive earlier or leave later in the day.
Etcetera: We provide wash and fold laundry service at no charge with a three-day turnaround. Electricity is standard U.S. 110 volt A.C. Currency in the British Virgin Islands is the U.S. Dollar.
